About Kennington Groff

Kennington Groff Kuzmin is a partner at Founders Legal and Chair of the firm’s Litigation and Trademark practice. She represents companies, institutions, executives, founders, creators and individuals in high-stakes disputes involving trademark, copyright, trade secrets, restrictive covenants, breach of contract, software, and other complex commercial claims, while also advising clients on the protection, enforcement, and commercial use of intellectual property.

Kennington’s practice combines trademark prosecution, litigation, and strategic counseling. She regularly advises clients on brand clearance, trademark registration, office action responses, portfolio management, and enforcement strategy, and drafts and negotiates the commercial agreements that govern how intellectual property is used in the marketplace, including licensing agreements, coexistence agreements, affiliate arrangements, and other brand-related contracts.

Alongside her trademark practice, Kennington maintains an active litigation practice involving intellectual property and technology disputes involving copyright infringement, software theft, trade secrets, source code, breach of contract, and digital media rights. Her litigation practice frequently intersects with the technology and media sectors, including matters involving digital platforms, emerging brands, and venture-backed companies. In a software theft case tried in state court, she secured a $4.7 million verdict for her client. She has also worked on significant copyright litigation involving a digital music platform defending claims brought by three of the largest music companies in the United States, as well as disputes involving technology businesses and software executives concerning proprietary code and related commercial rights. Further, she regularly works with clients on both offensive and defensive matters involving restrictive covenants and business competition issues, giving her perspective on both sides of complex commercial disputes.

Kennington has experience handling matters through all stages of litigation, including dispositive motion practice, discovery, and trial preparation, and works closely with clients in fact-intensive, high-stakes disputes where legal strategy must align with broader business objectives. Clients rely on her ability to combine courtroom strategy with practical guidance on how intellectual property is created, protected, and commercialized.

Before entering private practice, Kennington worked alongside senior entertainment executives in business and legal affairs roles at HBO, NBCUniversal, and Lionsgate in Los Angeles and New York. That experience provided firsthand insight into the commercial realities of content production, licensing, and rights management. Her background also includes television production work for Weather Gone Viral on The Weather Channel, where she was responsible for selecting, clearing, and licensing viral footage for broadcast.

Kennington’s practice sits at the intersection of brand value, intellectual property, entertainment, technology, and commercial growth.

She earned her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law and holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Journalism and Public Relations and Spanish from the University of Georgia.
